Parenthood and relationship
Society provides guidance and counselling to families to support them in parenting, raising children and relationships.
No one should be left to cope alone
No one should be left to cope alone, even if there is no family at hand to help. A child’s guardian always has primary responsibility for the child. A child has the right to have a close relationship with both parents even if the parents separate.
As minors, children are in a weaker position than adults, and therefore society has a responsibility to ensure children’s well-being and development. For this reason, Finland has made a legal commitment to protect and promote the rights of the child.
